Since the first kindergarten opened in 1837,kindergarten has been a time for telling stories, building castles, drawing pictures, and learning to share. But today, children are spending more time in kindergartens working out math problems and memorizing words. In short, kindergartens are becoming more like schools.
In my mind, exactly the opposite is needed. Instead of making kindergartens like schools,we need to make schools more like kindergartens.
As I see it,the kindergarten approach to learning is ideally suited to the core need of the 21st century – the ability to think creatively. Unfortunately, most schools are out of step with today’s need:they are not designed to help students develop as creative thinkers. But kindergartens,at least those remain true to the kindergarten tradition do things differently.
What do I mean by the kindergarten approach to learning? In traditional kindergartens, children are constantly designing, creating, experimenting, and exploring. Two children are building towers with wooden blocks. A classmate sees the tower and stars pushing his toy car between them. But the towers are too close together,so the children start moving the towers apart to make room for the car. In the process, one of the towers falls down. After a brief argument over who is at fault, they start talking about how to build a taller and stronger tower. Seeing this, the teacher shows them pictures of real world – tall buildings, and the children notice that the bottoms of the buildings are wider than the tops. So they decide to rebuild their block tower with a wider base than before. This type of process is process is repeated over and over in kindergarten. The materials vary and the creations vary, but the core process is the same. In going through this process, kindergarten children develop and improve their abilities as creative thinkers. They learn to develop their own ideas, try them out, test the boundaries, experiment with alternatives, get input from others – and, perhaps most significantly, generate new ideas based on their experiences. The kindergarten approach to learning is well-matched to the core need of the current society, and should be extended to learners of all ages.

11.According to paragraph 1,modern-day kindergartens spent more time ____.
A.encouraging children express themselves
B.engaging children in creative activities
C.teaching children school knowledge
D.telling children to share with others

12.What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 2 imply?
A.More high quality kindergartens are needed.
B.The kindergarten approach is more innovative.
C.Schools should adopt the kindergarten approach.
D.Schools should set an example for kindergartens.

13.The kindergarten approach helps children to ____.
A.think creatively
B.build towers quickly
C.handle arguments properly
D.memorize words efficiently

14.The teacher shows the picture of tall buildings to ____.
A.help the children to develop better cooperation
B.provide materials for building block towers
C.prevent the block tower from falling down
D.inspire the children to observe and explore

15.What is the purpose of this passage?
A.To help kindergartens to build school.
B.To promote the kindergarten approach.
C.To advise school to invest in kindergartens.
D.To start the reform of traditional kindergartens.
